Funny Story

My little dream cottage!

Hello Friends,
I'm sorry my posting has been so infrequent but between the bathroom remodeling, spring class parties and Easter, I haven't had much time. But I wanted to pop in to say hi and I thought I'd share a funny story with you. Because of a few people having to go back to work, I am the only room parent in my son's kindergarten class so I went from being a helper, to being the lone room mom. This is fine, I have been a room parent for Jake for the past four years so I know the drill. So needless to say, I do a lot of running around the day before the parties, getting supplies, planning crafts, etc . So yesterday Alex and I spent some time filling 140 plastic eggs with candy, slicing fruit and veggies and shopping for craft supplies. One of the kids comes up to me in the class and asks me why am I the the only room parent. I told him that I stayed home so I would be able to help out and do things at the school. He then told me I needed to get a job. After I told him that it wasn't polite to say things like that, a little girl said "So you have nothing to do and you just sit at home and watch tv?. " Hahahahahahahahahah! So basically, my husband and I made this huge financial sacrifice and stop working so that I would be able to do these things for my kids only to find out that they really just think I'm a big loser, lol. Just kidding, my kids always thank me for being a room parent and I know THEY appreciate it. When we were walking out Alex said thank you and that he had a lot of fun. That's why I do it! The teacher told me that one time a Dad came in to help and one of the kids asked him why he wasn't home drinking beer and watching Nascar. I guess we know what his dad does;)

The above picture is the cottage that I dream about. It's just for me, only one room. No phone, no computer, miles and miles from civilization. Only to be used on special occasions:)
Look at that yummy roof!!

Have a nice day!

That's a cute story and I can totally relate. We made a huge financial sacrifice when I stayed home while our 3 kids were little. It was a struggle at times, but I wouldn't trade that time for anything in the world. Of course I respect those Mommys who need to work, be it financial or personal reasons, but staying home was the right choice for me. My "kids" are 17, 19, and 20 now and they look back on those days with happiness. I think they were proud to have me be the mom on the block who was at home to "pinch babysit" and latchkey other kids. Doing this and being a room mom all those years, you really get to know all the kids they hang out with by the time they get to high school--and that is a GOOD thing! Have a great day and Kudos to you!

Love the cottage and your post! I too am a stay at home mom. I was at school today and I bet if you asked the kids who they would like to spend more time with I bet they would say their mom. We give our children a precious gift...we "spend" our time with them!

Oh my gosh that thatched roof is just precious. I lived in England for 4 years and those houses really weren't that unusual, believe it or not!
I've always been SO very grateful that I was fortunate enough to stay home with my kids. Things were different then...we had no credit...lived strictly within our one-income means. Life was simple but good. I'm hopeful that after all the ouch of where we've taken our economy we can all get back to those simpler ways of living this life.

It is so worth it to be there for your kids. They appreciate you. Although we Moms sometimes feel invisable to the world, our children see us!

Could I visit your cottage for tea?

I also help out at my kids school and it was a joint decision for me to stay at home too.

As for the little cottage, I grew up in a small village full of little thatched cottages, we didn't have a thached cottage though, ours was a huge run down old house that needed a lot of work. My dad loved to fix up old houses.
Thatches are beautiful indeed and I wish I stilled lived in that village now, unfortunatly those houses cost an absolute bomb lol and it is a long away lottery winning dream *sigh*
Reminds me i must find some old piccies of our old village ;)

Thanks for sharing your story. I can relate. When my kids were in school I stayed at home and helped out at their school doing anything and everything. Those days are fondly remembered by both of my girls and I. I agree with Jen's comment about hoping that after this economic struggle, that our world gets back to living within our means and putting effort into what is really important -- our family.

These 2 days, my 2 kids were sick & stayed home from school. They rested. And we baked cakes! Wouldn't have these Lemon Cake & Banana Cake & Butter Kuchen if they didn't have mother who stayed at home...to watch TV all day long :) .
